Katie has been writing since she was five, using a pencil to create short stories, kept in a spiral notebook. Her Christmas present to her friends in the first grade was a collection of short stories, bound in green construction paper and decorated with a red bow, titled "Made-up Stories".

Katie has a bachelor's degree in English from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., a master's degree in communication from The American University in Washington, D.C., and a master's degree in divinity from The Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va. Katie is passionate about reading, hiking, crossword puzzles, sudoku, and music and stubbornly remains a "Far Side" aficionado.

Katherine draws inspiration for her writing from careers as a freelance journalist, Episcopal priest, and as founder of the Gabriel Center for Servant-Leadership. As founder of the Gabriel Center for Servant-Leadership, Katie has devoted her life's work to spreading the power and healing touch of servant-leadership throughout the world. Prior to establishing the Gabriel Center, Katie worked as a newspaper reporter, freelance writer and editor. Her articles on servant-leadership have appeared in regional and international publications including, "Leadership in Action," "The (Lexington, Ky.) Advocate," the "Virginia Episcopalian" and "Washington Diocese." Katie's published work also includes "Make Yourselves at Home: And Other Stories", "The Lady of the House, A Novel", "In the Midst of Sunflowers," "To Speak of Love: Reflections on Servant-Leadership in Life and Work," and "Jordan to Jerusalem," a book of meditations for the season of Lent. Her short stories have appeared in "Appalachian Heritage," the literary magazine of Berea College, Berea, Ky. Katie is also an experienced facilitator in the applied human behavioral sciences and is an accomplished, dynamic public speaker.

A native of Georgia, she now lives in Marietta, not far from her hometown of Gainesville.
